This is Pharaoh, our 'naughty' but sweet boy! Pharaoh has been with us for a year and a half now. Pharaoh has been given a great opportunity! For the last few weeks Pharaoh has been at a behavior facility that is helping him get over some of his issues and he's making progress.
We would like to keep Pharaoh there only upon recommendation from his Behaviorist. The only thing is that it is $15 a day! So we are hoping to find donations of $15 to keep Pharaoh there longer. We already have 3 days worth.
Donations can be made in person at the shelter, mailed in or online here: http://www.bapsociety.com/Donations.html .
We hope this will help Pharaoh finally find a forever home!

This little kitten, now named 'Minnow', was just rescued by an amazing couple. The couple had read reports of this little one out in the county being hunted by hawks. When she arrived at the shelter we discovers she is covered in what appears to be burns, likely from a motor (This is a good reminder - bang on the hood of your vehicle before starting it to scare out any cats looking for warmth!). One burn covers her tummy to chest, burns on each paw, under her arm and her chin seems to be damaged. She is very scared, very sweet and very hungry

Caddo, our dog with parvo, was able to come 'home' yesterday. We've enabled some pretty strict protocols to keep him in isolation while he is in quarantine. Here is Blythe Lloyd doing her part last night with the poor guy.
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life-threatening illness. The virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in a dog’s body, most severely affecting the intestinal tract.
Parvovirus is extremely contagious and can be transmitted by any person, animal or object that comes in contact with an infected dog's feces. Highly resistant, the virus can live in the environment for months, and may survive on inanimate objects such as food bowls, shoes, clothes, carpet and floors. It is common for an unvaccinated dog to contract parvovirus from the streets, especially in urban areas where there are many dogs.
Although there are no drugs available that can kill the virus yet, treatment is generally straightforward and consists of aggressive supportive care to control the symptoms and boost your dog’s immune system to help him win the battle against this dangerous disease. Dogs infected with parvovirus need intensive treatment in a veterinary hospital, where they receive antibiotics, drugs to control the vomiting, intravenous fluids and other supportive therapies. Should your dog undergo this treatment, be prepared for considerable expense—the average hospital stay is about 5-7 days. Caddo was at the vet for 6 days and his bill is going be around $1500.
You can protect your dog from this potential killer by making sure he’s up-to-date on his vaccinations. Parvovirus should be considered a core vaccine for all puppies and adult dogs.

Fosters needed
BAPS is looking for forever foster homes for two Schipperkes. They are small, snuggly dogs! They can be fostered together or separately. They both get along with dogs, cats and all people. They are VERY affectionate and house trained.
The male is 14 years old and has some arthritis, which makes him stiff and he sometimes experiences mobility issues.
The female is 12 years old and she has epilepsy, which means she sometimes has seizures. She may be put on meds.
Forever Fosters homes commit to caring for and loving the animals until they pass away. BAPS provides food, training help, items and arranges for all medical care. For more information, please contact BAPS at 403-362-4323 or info@bapsociety.com

We just had three young robins brought in. Cute as a button! Usually we instruct the finders to leave to babies alone and their parents will care for them, but this families yard was full of cats and these babies woulda made a quick lunch (Already two babies went missing..). These cuties will be headed to a wildlife expert shortly.

BAPS (Brooks Animal Protection Society) needs your help.
We are broke. This is devastating. Our savings account is now empty. No funding coming in any time soon. Although the community supports us everyday, we must now ask for a helping hand.
Our monthly expenses are over $18 000. We bring in around 22% of this with adoptions, surrenders and shelter fees. The city compensates us 23% for monthly incoming stray animals and license fees. The remaining 55% is brought in from fundraising, grants and donations. Although we work hard daily to bring money into the shelter, it is simply not enough.
You can help your local homeless animals in many ways.
-Monetary Donations can be made via paypal (http://www.bapsociety.com/Donations.html), Mailed in (PO Box 86, Brooks, AB, T1R 1B2) or dropped off in person (415 1st Avenue East). Donate a portion of your tax rebate!
-Donate your bottles (We can pick up!)
-Pennies for paws
-Sponsor a Kennel, which can be done personally or through a business (Encourage your bosses!).
- Renew or purchase your City Dog License!
Hold a Fundraiser for BAPS! There are so many easy, fun ways to raise funds. Here are just a few ideas:
-BBQ
-Bottle Drive
-Take scrap metal to B.I.M. and bring in the proceeds
-Hold a Casual / Jean day at work
-Sell baked goods
-Yard Sale
-Offer a service
-Get creative!
All donations, big or small, are eligible for a charitable receipt. To learn more about BAPS, please visit http://www.bapsociety.com/Brooks_Animal_Shelter.html . The animals desperately need you.

Gertie Came in to us March 2012. She was found on the side of a high way, barely able to walk, unable to use one leg, full of sores, emaciated and had missing hair. She was quickly taken into the vet and received much needed medical care. While getting X-rays, the vet discovered many tumors. Gertie was only given a few months to live.
In April, after getting an overwhelming response of people willing to give her a home for the last short while of her life, she found the perfect home.
Well, it has been 10 months, and Gertie has completely turned into a different dog. She has great energy, no more mobility issues, and plays, plays, plays! We think she will have years with her forever family.
"Beatrix (Gertie) is doing great! We really turned a corner with the two dogs in November and they play and even wrestle everyday! She is learning to wrestle like a Mastiff and he like a Bull Terrier! They are a hilarious pair! Physically she looks and is feeling great! We have not done any surgeries with her just feeding her great food and lots of supplements and her coat and skin look great! She's a very happy dog! My son Ryder absolutely adores her and she him...she just loves to cuddle!
Hope this finds everyone at BAPS doing well!"

Well.. Hi! I'm Albert. I am just one year old and I currently live at the Brooks Animal Protection Society. I am not feeling very well right now.. I am bleeding on the inside and I need to take a trip to Calgary for a ..scope? Or something like that! I am on meds that make me feel better but it won't get better without more help. The thing is.. It's going to cost BAPS around $1000! I don't even know how much that is but it sounds like a LOT for a nonprofit that helps animals like me. Do you think you help me out? Donations can be made in person at the shelter (415 1st Ave East), online (http://www.bapsociety.com/Donations.html ) or by mail (PO Box 86, Brooks, T1R 1B2). Thank you for your consideration!
