BAPS is looking for some very special foster homes. Kitten season is soon upon us and we are looking for very special people who can love and commit to the huge amount of work required to raise orphaned kittens. We are looking for foster homes interested in caring for orphans of different age levels. Orphans enter our care at all age levels.
Here is some more information on the different level of care the various ages of kittens will need:
0-2 weeks old: Bottle feedings every 1-2 hours. This age of orphan requires immense amount of care and commitment. They can not go to the bathroom on their own and will need to be stimulated. Foster homes must be able to have the kittens with them all the time)
2-4 weeks old: Bottle feedings every 2-4 hours. This age of orphan still requires a great amount of work, Around the 4 week mark they will start to be able to use the bathroom on their own and can start their litter box training – though will still require stimulation. Foster homes must be able to have the kittens with them most of the time.
4-6 weeks old: Feedings every 4 hours. Kittens still get milk but can start to learn to drink from bowls and begin being weaned over to ‘kitten mush’. Kittens begin to need less constant care. They likely will be / will soon be litter box trained and will no longer need stimulation. Foster Homes must be able to come home from work / school to feed them at lunch time.
6-8 weeks old: Feedings every 4-6 hours. Kittens should have been weaned over to kitten mush. Orphans require much less care at this age and should be litter box trained. Feeding times and requirements vary.

BAPS provides all food and items needed to raise orphaned kittens. If you are interested in volunteering to help save the lives of these little infants, please email us at info@bapsociety.com or private message us.

Roadie has had his surgery! Thank you EVERYONE for your support and love for our big guy. We will be posting more updates as time passes.

PS - this handsome guy is up for adoption and will be able to go home once he heals!

Friday, January 31, 2014

This handsome cat is Roadie. At the start of December, he was hit by a car. Roadie laid on the street, watching the vehicles pass him - no one would stop to help him. Luckily a BAPS volunteer spotted the poor guy and rushed him to the vet.
Roadie sustained minor scrapes, road rash and bruises. Overall he seemed to be doing great - except he couldn't use one of his legs, which suffered nerve paralysis.

For the last month, Roadie has been with an amazing foster home who has been putting him through physio therapy. Despite all their efforts, we can not save Roadie's leg and it must be amputated. Watch a video of Roadie hopping around his foster home here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErO43CF7PVI&edit=vd

Roadie is a super sweet guy who deserves the world. Roadie's amputation will cost upwards of $700 - so we are asking for assistance in aiding this endlessly happy, sweet cat. Every penny counts.

Donations towards his care can be made in person at BAPS or online here: http://www.bapsociety.com/Donations.html . Thank you for considering to aid sweet Roadie.

Magenta was surrendered to us 14 months ago. This year for Christmas she asked Santa if she could find a home.
Well. Wish granted, Magenta! She was finally adopted to the perfect home. Way to go, girl! We miss you so much already.
Inka the cat was surrendered to us October 1 - her family was moving. Coming to BAPS was really hard on poor Inka. She grew stressed and depressed and gave up on life. She refused to eat, nothing helped. Luckily, an amazing foster family (The Kemps ) worked their magic and saved her.
Once she was deemed healthy enough, Inka returned to BAPS. She took it better this time but was still really upset. She hated the other animals and was a grumpy lady.

.. I think she's finally settled in. This photo was taken last night. This morning she gave me a kiss on the nose. Now to find her a perfect, permanent home.
