Meet Ebony, a loving five year old Labrador.
Ebony was surrendered to us with her kitty friends, Digby and Izzy, when their family had to move back over seas. Digby and Ebony are very bonded. They play together, sleep together and are most comfortable when in each others presence.
Here's what Ebony's family wrote about her:
"Ebony, came to us with aggression, physically biting, jumping and she had not learnt any skills other than sit and she was dominating everyone, it was a tough 5 weeks of constant training, using the internet for guidance and in that time I built a strong bond with Ebony where she learnt to trust (probably for the first time!) 2 years later she is perfect, she knows sit, down, paw, other paw, find your ball, kiss, cuddle and Wait. she will stay for short periods but if you disappear from her sight she will check where you have gone! we use the word “OFF” if she is on the couch or trying to sit on your lap and “DOWN” meaning lay down."
"Ebony is great on leash with me but for everyone else she still pulls, I think it is because I spent so much time walking her and teaching her that she has that understanding with me. Off leash you couldn’t ask for a better dog, she will run and sniff ahead of you but she always keeps her eye on where you are so she’ll never go out of sight and her recall is excellent. She loves all dogs big and small and if she is confronted by an aggressive dog she will back away without confrontation. Also what's interesting is she does not like alcoholics, I was walking with my 7 year old son in the dog park early one evening no one was around but there was a drunk man walking towards us waving his arms and talking to himself, Ebony caught sight of this man and she was running circles around him growling to stop him from walking, Ebony kept her eye on us the whole time and as soon as we were far enough away Ebony let the man go and run over to us and carried on as though nothing had happened. She really didn’t like the man for whatever reason but she made us feel safe and she didn’t hurt the man just made sure we safely passed first, she also made sure the man was out of arms reach from herself. Also she growled and barked at our neighbours drunk brother in Bassano whenever he came over so she really doesn’t like alcoholics which I'm thinking may be something from her past?"
"Ebony also loves riding in cars, doesn’t matter if she gets out for a walk or not she enjoys the company and just being with you! She loves hiking and she runs ahead to check out the safest route and then will block the path that she feels is unsafe, when my son nearly fell over some tree routes poking out the ground she stood by him so he could hold on to her, so as you can see Ebony has really come out of her shell she is loyal and will look after her family and protect them, especially the kids.
Ebony loves dogs, cats, horses, pigs, children and adults and she is wary of Cows!!, brooms, vacuums."
