Shizu
Here are a few shots of Spell (Now named Shizu) in her new home. She was adopted at the beginning of the month after a lot of careful though by her mom and dad. We love getting updates. I must admit, updates of my personal, hand-raised fosters hold a certain spot in my heart.
Don't forget to join us on Facebook for more happy tails! http://www.facebook.com/groups/126017720770281/

Peter and Juice
Peter PDP, our favorite Radio DJ and amazing volunteer is currently fostering one of our cats, Juice. He's sharing this adorable (and hilarious!) story about our shelter and Juice.
" Ok gear down big rig and have a seat on Petey's knee and I will tell you the tale of how parade float the cat came to be.
In Brooks Alberta the animal shelter is named BAPS (Brooks animal protection super secret service BAPSSS) and I love animals so I have raised money on air for them a few months back.
After stopping by on the regular to drop off donations I would always visit with the dogs and cats. I'm an asshole in real life but a big suck when it comes to animals and care more for them them most people.
Poor 8 year old Juice had been there for 9 months, she was found on the highway outside medicine hat abandon. With over 75 other cute kittens and agile cats with breathe that would not wilt flowers she was not the pick of the litter if you will. I felt bad and went to say hi, she immediately crawled on me and dragged her big belly on my lap. I pet her, she purred, we bonded.
I had to show Kerri Juice the next day as it truly pulled on my heart strings. When we came into the cat room she did the same routine with Kerri and we decided to foster her for a few months. We brought our own cat carrier but that was far to small to hold such a large puddle of cat and a dog carrier was supplemented.
After bringing home the matted ball of fur BAPSSS being the amazing most caring place ever arranged a grooming for free to de-smell the large creature. After that was taken care of and she was shaved and looked like a fat bald lion she hid for a week or two under beds and tables that fit her girth. I spent many nights on the floor talking with her and meowing back and forth I even downloaded an APP on my iphone that was supposed to translate my words to cat meows. I think it just scared her.
After a few weeks she would come meet me at the top of the stairs and follow me around. Even when I shower she will reach under the door in a last ditch effort to be near me ( i will host the pic) As time has passed, she became more and more attached and as have I. I even look forward to her horrendous breathe on my face while she snuggles and tries to clean my hair. I could do without the constant eye cleanings but meh goes with the territory.
She was named by Marcus my old news guy who when he first saw her he blurted " HOLLY HELL THAT THING IS A PARADE FLOAT" We have short formed it to just PF now.
This is the story of Juice aka PF, my pal, my gal, My ugly little cock eyed ball of fur that makes my other animals jealous!" Thanks, Pete. You brighten all of our days.

Willow
Last March this beautiful wolf, now named Willow, was put in our care. She had been kept as a pet. We were lucky enough to find a spot for her with an amazing organization, Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre ( http://www.northernlightswildlife.com/). This beautiful girl only had to stay with us for a short while before we were able to help transport her to her new home where she could be what she was supposed to be - a wolf! We recently got an update, and here she is with her best friend and playmate, Moab. We are so happy how her life has changed and none of us that have the privilege to know her will forget this beautiful animal.

Harley
Last June we received a call from a very distraught pet parent, her dog had had gone missing on the #1 Highway. Weeks and then months went by and Harley was never found. Well, we just got an update!
"Hi my name is Teri Druar. I lost my dog Harley in June 2011. I posted a lost ad with you guys on June 20th. I just wanted to say Thank you very much, as we got our Harley back. A couple moving from Calgary to Swift Current saw him and picked him up. They googled lost Jack Russell hwy 1 and didn't get anything, a few months later, they tried the same thing but looked under the images button on google, and the picture you had on your website came up. Needless to say they gave us a call and we picked up Harley.
We just wanted to let BAPS know so they could take it off, and send our gratitude. Without your help we would have never got our member of our family back.
Thanks so much
Teri Druar "
This is amazing and was our goal for our Lost and Found Blog.

Lloyd
Here's a little update on Lloyd, now named Argyle! He's now a BIG boy who's growing fast. He was a volunteer favorite who was adopted at the start of this month.
"This is the new member of the Ryan family!!! He has settled in great and is enjoying his new home. He loves to play ball and makes you chase him. When we go for long walks in the fields he loves to run in the long grass. He is also responding to training really well and is becoming bigger every day.
Thanks again for all your help!!!"

Jess!
Jess was a little collie puppy brought in to us in October of 2010, when she was found all alone in a vacant field with no one around. She was about 2 months old. She was quickly adopted and here is an update!
"Hello fine people at BAPS!
This is the Wilson family checking in about year after we adopted Kida (formerly known as Jess) from your facility. We just wanted to tell you a little bit about how she's doing and how much we've come to love her as part of our family.
Despite some early timidness Kida has turned into a brave little explorer ready to tackle mysteries head on and give the run around to dogs eight times her size. And we do mean run around, she may just be the quickest dog in all of Edmonton, we've even been thinking of doing some agility training with her, she's a clever little girl and we're sure she'd pick up on it amazingly fast. Recently while walking Kida down in the off leash area near out home we met another dog with the same coloring and build and discovered that this dog was a Border Collie cross with a Jack Russel terrier. Guess we figured out why she has a never ending reservoir of energy! She gets a long great with her older sister even though sometimes she likes to tease her by stealing Ariel's toys and having her give chase. Having other dogs chase her might be her most favorite thing in the world. Well, besides: Her fuzzy squeaky toys, Roll-Over dog treats, hiding her tennis balls in blankets, "overseeing" the outside world from her perch atop the couch, going for at least 3 walks a day, stealing the blankets bedtime and of course sleeping like a weirdo (see pictures for evidence)
We want to thank you for introducing us to this wonderful, happy, cuddly and active little girl because she has now become an important part of our family and we couldn't imagine life with out her.
Sincerely,
Betty, Don, Maren, Madison and Mikala"

Opal
A Story from Opal, a Mastiff recently adopted from us!
Hey, Girls, Bubbles here! Just to let you guys know I am doing fabulously. I had my tooth surgery yesterday - it definitely was shattered and had to come out in many pieces, but they packed my gum with stuff and sewed me up so I get soft stuff for a few weeks! It hasn't slowed me down much though and soon I will be feeling 300% better! I have put on 6+ pounds and the vet says I am just perfect now. Mom has me in obedience class - with other doggies and of course, I am the class clown! I can't go by the mirrors without admiring how beautiful I am and when they try to do this 'recall' thing, I put the leash in my mouth and walk myself, eventually, over to Mom! I am learning sit, stay, down, come (when I feel like it) and am walking really well on a leash! Mom has me coming back to her, sometimes, with the squeaky ball but mostly l just love my tummy rubbed and I lay right beside Mom and she rubs it for hours! Dad rubs my head and kisses me lots and I really like that! Oh, and I almost get into the Jeep by myself (ok, I put my front paws up and Mom lifts my bottom in) by I am loving getting out and meeting peoples. The kids in the 'hood line up for the bus in the morning and on our morning walk Mom lets me stop and kiss them all and they all know my name. They all giggle! Kids are sticky and always have tasty stuff on their faces! All in all, life is great and I just love my new home - even if I do have to go into that cagey thing when Mom goes to work. I go in all by myself now but I still give Mom that guilt look though, just for good measure.
Mom and Dad have about 100 pix of me but Dad only sent the three you will see on the next email! Thanks for everything, ladies - you saved me for 2 people who love me more than you know! Have a great Christmas, Mom says I am the best present of all!!

Gene
I'm Gene! I'm four months old and kind of wondering why no one has adopted me yet. I mean, my whole family was adopted. I'm adorable, very sociable and I LOVE all animals, people and especially children. Sometimes I can get into a bit of trouble, but come on, I'm a kitten! My adoption fee is only $60 - and that includes my neuter, vaccinations, microchip and all that good stuff! Won't you be the one to finally give me a home? www.bapsociety.com

2012 Calendars
Tiana
It's not often that BAPS is able to accept bunnies into our care. Bella (Tiana while in our care) is one of those rare cases. She was lucky enough to be adopted out to a classroom where she spends her weekdays being loved on and cared for by the children and her weekends resting at home with the teacher.

BAPS is currently full to the brim with kittens - we have over 30 of all ages, colors, breeds and genders. Adoptions have really been great but the mothers, babies and orphans are pouring in faster than they can find forever homes. Most kittens are not yet listed on the website, but please don't hesitate to contact the shelter for any inquiries. Photos and descriptions can be provided! For more information on adoption, please visit http://www.bapsociety.com/Adopting_a_Pet.html. Don't forget that have many more adult felines looking to be your next purrfect pet too!

Lyla (Known to BAPS as Miya) was transferred to Windy City Canine Rescue from BAPS and is still looking for her furrever home! Here's a write up on her:
Lyla is doing fantastic and is such a loveable dog. She is friendly to everyone and everything she meets. She loves to play with other dogs and is especially happy if they join her in a game of chase. She also enjoys playing tug-o-war with other dogs or people. She's even managed to convince her foster cat sister to play with her. She also does great with kids and seems to know not to jump up and to take treats very gently from them. Once she is finally tired, she loves to cuddle. This girl is sweet, sassy and very playful! She is up for any adventure whenever you are.

Lebbie
Hi, my name is Lebie. I'm just 7 weeks old, and I've had a rough go of it already. I have broken toes on my front paw, with a severe infection. I really need to go in for surgery soon to have them amputated, but boy, is it expensive. I, and all the girls at BAPS would really appreciate donations in any amount to help out. We are hoping it will only be toes, but if the infection has spread more might have to be removed.
Can you help me? Contact my foster mom, Serena, via email at serenapennings@yahoo.ca, text or call at 403-376-1059 for more information. Tax deductible receipts will be issued for all donations. Donations can also be made via paypal at http://www.bapsociety.com/Donations.html .

Cricket was a little Min Pin who was brought into us in July of 2009 - her family had moved and left her behind. She was skin and bones, had a skin infection and was not socialized with people.
After lots of work, love and care Cricket was adopted into a wonderful, patient home. It took her two months of love and encouragement before she'd even leave her kennel - and now she's a wonderful, social pup who will even say hi to strangers.

Meet Raina - our New 1 year old Pit Bull mix. She was just transferred to us on Saturday.
Raina is very friendly - she LOVES being around people and receiving attention. Raina has done fabulous with all the dogs she has met so far. She's played with Greyhounds, Labradors and Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Raina has done wonderful with all the people she has met so far - Men, women and children. She has yet to meet a person she doesn't like. Raina gets excited when she firsts meet you, but she quickly calms down and, if wanted, she will go off and do her own thing.
Raina seems very eager to learn. Raina does need some work on her obedience and manners. She would excel at obedience and behavioral classes - and it would be a wonderful opportunity for you to bond.
She is a big love - she loves snuggling into you and giving big kisses. She's playful and full of life. For more information on adoption, please visit http://www.bapsociety.com/Adopting_a_Pet.html
